Antonion walked into his classroom, his face sour. He waved his hands, causing all the shudders to shut. Forcing Darkness into the room. He flicked his wand, lighting a few candles. He sat behind his desk, smoothing out his expensive robes. He looked around his classroom, seeing the dark objects, and the different pictures. He got up and decided to rehearese his lesson.
“The Dark Arts,” said Antonion, “Are many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal. Fighting them Is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is severed, sprouts a head even fiercer, and cleverer than before.” Antonion smiled at everyone, an evil smile, that few would care to see. “Your defenses,” he said a little louder, “must therefore be as flexible and inventive as the arts you seek to undo. These pictures,” he indicated a few of them as he walked by, “give a fair representation of what happens to those who suffer, for instance, the Cruciatus Curse,”-he waved a hand toward a witch who was clearly shrieking in agony- “feel the Dementor’s Kiss,”- a wizard lying huddled and blank-eyed, slumping against a wall- “or provoke the aggression of the Inferius,”-a bloody mass upon the ground. “Now, you want to know why I am talking about Inferi?” he turned looking into each of their eyes, “The Dark Lord has used the Inferi in the past, which means that you will be well advised to assume he might use them again. Now…” He set off again around the other side of the classroom toward his desk. He turned once arriving there, and smiled, “….you are, I believe, complete novices in the use of nonverbal spells. Now the advantage is that your adversary has no warning about the magic you are about to perform, giving you the split second advantage. Now those who progress to using magic without shouting incantations gain an element of surprise in their spell-casting. Not all wizards can do this, of course: it is a question of concentration and mind power which some-” he smiled harshly- “lack.” “You lot will now divide,” Antonion went on, “into pairs. One partner will atempt to jinx the other, without speaking. The other will attempt to repel the jinx, in equal silence. Carry on,” he said moving around the room, watching as people started to pair.
He smiled, and went to sit in his desk. This was going to be one interesting lesson. He couldn't wait to see the kids attempt to jinx each other.
